Hey Swindell! Are you still playing out?

I played with Weedpuller this past July: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-JUUwxXqZB3NgVfDCMQpNbD_rhEZlxvW

Before that, it'd been a long time.

so do you feel that as a drummer you are losing your edge as you get older, apart from the other types of musicians?

drumming seems very physical and you have to carry the whole beat of the song. ---

I think singers with aging vocal chords and lungs have the biggest challenge with age. And guitarists and keyboardists have arthritis in their fingers and fine joints. Nobody gets off easy. :-/

yeah i guess. i always thought drumming required the most activity aside from singing.

i know max weinberg has a lot of problems with his hands. he has to go to sleep with tight gloves on so his hands dont swell up real huge. not to mention other tricks. i guess he had a lot of operations in the early 80s too.

I'm playing bass and thought I was getting arthritis in my left hand but didn't really consider the two cords of firewood I just stacked. Trying to play two hour practice sets to keep the chops up...

Yep... I agree. I have not played a gig since 2018 but I first noticed my chops were leaving the building in 2010 at the age of 55. My left hand no longer works like it used to. But I actually think my playing peaked around 2005 when my hands were still there and my guitar playing knowledge was at its highest and I was playing gigs almost every weekend...

i'm an electronics guy and i've always worked with my hands. I've lost that delicate touch i used to have. Also, when i'm doing something that is not good(bad hand position), sometimes my thumb will spasm in a way where it just locks in or locks out.

THAT is real scarey. When you are old it takes a long time for tendons to heal, also. I hurt my wrist 2 years ago and it's finally almost better. It's hurting right now but it's not sprung and weak. I would pull out a shopping cart and i'd gasp and have severe pain and it felt like my wrist broke.
