The gating on this system of a selected few alt.bbs newsgrops is to a
very few nodes in Region 19 that don't run a Synchronet system with a
direct news link. It is obvious that one of them has a re-post problem
and the dupe are coming in with a different MSGID kludge. I will find
out which one it is and have him either unlink from the
ALT-BBS-SYNCHRONET echo or correct the
dupe problem.

Okay, thanks for looking into it.
Rob, I sent you NetMail about having cancelled the alt-bbs-synchronet
echo, After the fact I tracked down the problem system and have sent
him a message to either correct his dupe problem or I would unlink him
from all echomail feed from my system... He answered back and unlinked
the alt-bbs-synchronet echo from his system.
I may re-establish a link in the Newsgate program to alt.bbs.synchronet
IFF I am convinced that there are no more dupes coming in that are
getting past the Squish dupe detection that are headed for the Newsgate progam... That is unless you have any objection.

The important thing to understand is that the SYNCHRONET echo on
FidoNet and the alt.bbs.synchronet newsgroup are already gated to each
other (here on Vertrauen). If you're going to use Newsgate to gate alt.bbs.synchronet to FTN, it's important that it gets distributed via
FTN with an echo-tag *other* than SYNCHRONET. I have no objection so
long as that's understood.

It's limited distribution (as far as I know) in Region 19 as "ALT-BBS-SYNCHRONET". (Note there are no dots as my old Squish tosser
(under OS/2) can't handle echo names with dots in them.

Okay, sounds good to me then.

Okay, I'll link it only to BBSes in R19 that aren't running
Synchronet software... would be 'kinda redundant to link to them. <g>

You know that this group is shared as SYNCHRONET on Fido, so you're
already providing it to your downlinks. Seems like duplicate effort?
It may in fact be a duplicate effort in the case of the SYNCHRONET echo, but it is not the only newsgroup that I offer to those that aren't running a system with a built-in newsgroup system. As I mentioned before I'm certainly not trying to step on anyone's (Digitalman) toes by offering it as an echo. I believe, as I said before, that I've eliminated the unfortunate duplicate message posting problem so as NOT annoy others in the actual newsgroup.

I have not seen any dupes since the original batch, so I think you did
fix
it.

No I have not noticed any, yesterday (20th) or today.
If they were exact dupes, and not reprocessed messages, Synchronet may
have filtered them out.
