Don't worry about memorization just read it. You will retain enough.

Then sign up at hamstudy.org take a pretest. You will fail it but you will see that you retained some. this will show you what you need to know more about and provide that info for you.

the same questions pool is on the test so no surprise questions. once your passing regularly, they have a 24/7 testing spot right on that hamstudy.org go take the test. Bam your a HAM

    Well Sir,
The Shack is in the basement , 80M Slinky Antenna and the feed line to the 20M Inverted V Antenna are in the Attic.

Wife said the unsightly co-ax from the room upstairs going to the Attic Staircase didn't look good.
    So I removed them.

I see you mentioning 10 Meters in other posts, my experience is 20M is a really good Band for long distance communicating.

Never owned a HT, I operate from Line Power.
Used to have a Kenwood 2M rig that I used at home and in the car but the rig started resetting itself to 144.000 Mc/s even while it was Keyed Up.
Repair Serviceman said it couldn't be repaired so I left it with the Repairman to put in his Junque Pile.

Have a Heathkit Sixer but don't use it after neighbor said they heard me talking on their T.V. set.

I'm a new HAM so no 20M for me. I do want to get upgraded but I have 2 kids learning right now I want to help get through.

Well I can understand that. If its not worth the hassle the it's as easy as that. Thanks for checking in.

Right now all I have is the Baofeng BF-F8HP. I have a better antenna coming. The elmer across the street helped me make one for the car. The car antenna really helped a ton. I got in to a station about 20 miles from my location with it. That really surprised me. There is a nice guy that said he had an extra Yeasu 2M hes sending so and didn't even ask for shipping. I'm excited to have a little more power behind the antenna. Well 73

Wait, like a REAL Slinky? If so, that's amazing.

Yep, that's an actual thing. In fact, if you can get your hands on the special edition brass slinky it's said to work a bit better.

They can be fun to play with. You can use alligator clips / jumper cables to adjust the feedpoint, change the spacing of the coils and the overall length of the antenna, perform endless tweaks like this to get the best results on whatever band.

I believe it was with this antenna that a member of my club worked Great Britain from Ohio one year, on sideband, with some difficulty. It wasn't until after the contact was over that he realized he'd been talking into the back of the mic.

And for the sake of the thread, yes, another ham here: VE3XEC.

That's a classic - spend a fortune on kit, hours of setup, months or years of polishing your on-air skills... then the time it matters most accidentally talk into the back of the mic :)

BTW thanks for Bubble Boggle - it is one of my few reliable daily rays of sunshine!

He was quite agitated by the end of the contact, but they did manage to exchange all the pertinent details and it went in the log. I think the microphone collided with the picnic table shortly after.

That game was actually written by my good friend Matt (MCMLXXIX). If my name is on it anywhere it'll be because I did the intro screen. I will pass this comment along as I'm sure he'll be glad to see it.

Well I've been looking and being not rich I am pretty settled on https://www.amazon.com/AnyTone-AT-5555N-II-Function-Output/dp/B09VC112PN?th=1 There is a rebrand of it as... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CFQT4KWB/?coliid=I2NAZ5EQGGOBCQ&colid=B26XV5KA8OTO& psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it

From what I can tell its the same radio. I have them on watch so either I get enough money for it or it goes on sale. Either way its what I can afford, portable for POTA, and will be a good pass down to my kids that are also getting licensed sooner or later.

Ah - that would explain the incredible score MCMLXXIX has on DoorParty :)

Well in that case I must compliment you on your choice of words used in the intro screen.
