Acronis True Image is taking 20+ hours to back up 2.5TB. This is ridiculous. What can I use that would be as effective, but actually use the 1Gbps the
drive is capable of instead of about 50mbps...

Your using the wrong type of software. There is no need to always backup the whole drive.

Give veeam backup "Agent for Windows" a try. (Free for home use). https://www.veeam.com/products/free/microsoft-windows.html?ad=downloads

It will of course do a initial full lbackup, then incremental for the remaning untill the roll over date
and then depending on the settings a full backup.

It will backup to local hd, usb drive, network. Plus tell the kids to
    get off the lawn.*

Agree with Vorlon, I used Veeam Free Agent for many months if not years. It just runs!! It does the job well.

Interesting, I'm using Windows backup for Windows 7 (hidden on Windows
11, but still there) and expect it to go away at some point.

Expect it to go bye bye on the next ms update. #-(

Like the way they move things for easy of use.. Something that took two click to get to now takes four or five.......

I like Veeam, use their software on VMWare extensively.

I have it installed on my main pc, and any of the vm's that I also run....

I'm seeing 130+ mb sec accross a gigabit network for backup's.

Is it fast? I'll look at it.

Yes it is.. I only use it across a gigabit network and am seeing backup speeds of 130+mb a sec.
Backuping up to usb (even usb 3) devices will always be slow imho...

I've done test's in the past and foind going across the network was always 3-4 times faster.

The only time I've had to look at it, is if a backup has failed... Sofar they haven't been due to veeam, but something else...
I've got it installed on real hardware and VM's (Both Linux & Windoes).

Have even talked someone over the phone on how to recover a file from the backup (Windows version).

I'm using USB 3, and it is to an HDD, so it's going to be around 100-200MB/s.
Your quote of 130mb/s is extremely slow, unless you're using the wrong abbreviations for MegaByte (you're using megabit). I got Macrium Reflect,
and it's going to take about 3 hours for the full backup. I'm not sure how long it'll take for incrementals. It's to a 22TB drive, from about 3.5TB,
so I've got plenty of room.

Acronis True Image is taking 20+ hours to back up 2.5TB. This is
    ridiculous.

Is that over USB 2.0? If so, perhaps that speed is expected.

3.1Gen2 I believe. Not 2.0. The drive does 100MBps regularly when dragging files over.

I tremble when I need to move rather "small" 3.3GB files!

    My email file:

    19/09/2024 12:45 PM 3,262,284,800 august2.pst

    real 16m 14.20s
    user 0m 6.02s
    sys 1m 4.38s

I currently move that across the network to another PC that has
a USB HDD attached via USB 2

Ten times that size would be 32GB at 160min. :(

And 10 times that would be about 3TB at 1600min == 26 hrs.
That's close to what you're getting now.

Hope you track down the reason your transfers are so slow over
    USB 3.1.

Nice. I have a 10GB USB external plugged into my NAS that I plan to use
for backups. Media and documents already get synced to the NAS, where
they're backed up again using Proxmox' built-in backup.

This is a +1 for Veeam. I used it at work in our data center and use it at home on my small network (1 blade server with about a dozen VMs, and 4 PCs). Granted, these are all running on a 1gb connection, but it's lickety split for the diffs. The first full backup takes a while, not gonna lie.

Way back before my work moved everything to the cloud, this is what our IT team used. The few times we had to restore a backup it just worked & was pretty quick for the amount of data involved.
